Sindhi interpreting services

The Sindhi heard in schools, on the radio and in print is Vicholi, the speech of central Sindh, which the British administration adopted as the standard. Around it sit regional varieties: Lari in the lower Indus towards the coast, Thari in the desert of the south-east, Lasi over the border in Balochistan, Siroli in upper Sindh, and Kachhi in Kutch on the Indian side. An experienced interpreter copes with all of them, yet an older speaker from Tharparkar or Lasbela will relax sooner with someone who knows their turns of phrase.

Almost all of this work is consecutive, a sentence or two at a time. Because interpreters are scarce, video is often the practical answer for a clinic or a solicitor's meeting, while a hearing or a long interview is better done in person if we can find someone within reach.

Face-to-face interpreting

The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.

Telephone interpreting

The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.

Video interpreting

A Sindhi interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.

We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.

Certified Sindhi translation

Papers from Sindh arrive in a mix of languages. Identity cards, passports and most civil records from Pakistan are in English or Urdu, while personal letters, some local certificates and older family papers are in Sindhi. Every translator we use works into their native language, so Sindhi to English is done by a native English speaker and English to Sindhi by a native Sindhi speaker.

Short vowels are usually left unwritten in the Arabic-based alphabet, so one name can reach English in several spellings. We copy the passport spelling and point out any document that disagrees with it. A religious document may carry an Islamic (Hijri) date beside the Gregorian one, and we give both.

  • Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
  • Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
  • Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
  • Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
  • Transcription of Sindhi audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.

English to Sindhi translation

Before we translate into Sindhi, we ask who the readers are. For people from Pakistan the text goes into the Arabic-based alphabet in standard Vicholi, with Urdu-leaning vocabulary for official terms. For Indian Sindhi families, many of whom now read Hindi more easily than any Sindhi script, Devanagari may serve them better, and some older readers will prefer the Arabic-based letters they learnt as children. Tell us and we will match it.

Sindhi court and police interpreters

Sindhi is asked for in British courts far less often than Urdu, and that scarcity is the main risk: a defendant or witness from Sindh can end up with an Urdu interpreter nobody thought to question. Where Sindhi is the person's first language, we find a Sindhi interpreter with legal experience and, where interpreters holding them exist for Sindhi, the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or registration with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). If nobody suitable can travel to the hearing, a remote interpreter by video can join with the court's agreement.

Sindhi interpreter and translator FAQs

How quickly can I book a Sindhi interpreter?

We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Sindhi interpreters work nearby.

How much does a Sindhi interpreter cost?

The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.

Can you certify Sindhi translations for a UK visa or immigration application?

Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application. Because Sindhi is not written in the Latin alphabet, send us the passport spelling of every name so the translation matches it.

Do you provide Sindhi interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?

Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Sindhi interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
