Khmer Cambodian interpreting services
The double name reflects a real distinction. Khmer is the language, and it is spoken beyond Cambodia's borders: by Khmer Krom communities in southern Vietnam, by Northern Khmer speakers in north-east Thailand, and by Cambodians who have spent years working abroad. Standard Cambodian Khmer, the kind heard on national broadcasts, is the safe default for an interpreter. A client from Surin or the Mekong Delta may still use local words, and Northern Khmer differs enough that some linguists count it as a separate language. When the client's roots lie outside Cambodia, tell us, and allow a few minutes at the start for interpreter and client to settle on terms. Consecutive interpreting suits nearly all public-service work.
Face-to-face interpreting
The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.
Telephone interpreting
The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.
Video interpreting
A Khmer Cambodian interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.
We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.
Certified Khmer Cambodian translation
Khmer documents reach us mainly from Cambodia. Khmer Krom families, though, may hold papers issued in Vietnam, written in Vietnamese with their names spelled by Vietnamese rules, while the family's own Khmer spelling differs again; a Vietnamese document needs a Vietnamese translator, and we can arrange that too. We translate what each document actually says and, where a name differs between documents, point it out in a note.
Every translator we use works into their own native language, never out of it. Older certificates are often filled in by hand, and handwritten Khmer script is hard to read on a poor scan, so send the clearest copy you have. We certify the finished English translation for use in the UK.
- Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
- Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
- Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
- Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
- Transcription of Khmer Cambodian audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.
English to Khmer Cambodian translation
When translating into Khmer for a UK audience we write modern standard Cambodian Khmer, which is also the written standard for Khmer speakers outside Cambodia. Those who grew up in Vietnam or Thailand were usually schooled in Vietnamese or Thai, though, so check which script your readers actually read before paying for a leaflet. Keep product names, addresses and phone numbers in Latin letters beside the Khmer so they can be copied, and leave room in the layout, since stacked Khmer letters take more vertical space than English.
Khmer Cambodian court and police interpreters
Khmer Cambodian interpreting in UK legal work spans police interviews, magistrates' and Crown Court hearings, family proceedings and immigration tribunals. For all of them we look for interpreters with legal experience in Khmer and, where interpreters holding them exist for the language, the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or registration with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). Where the court allows, send the interpreter the charge sheet or key documents before the hearing, so names and places can be checked in advance. For a defendant or witness from the Khmer Krom community, say so at the time of booking.
How to book a Khmer Cambodian interpreter
- Tell us about the assignment: the date, time and address, or that you need telephone or video; how long it should last; and what it is for, such as a hospital appointment, a hearing or a business meeting.
- Tell us about the speaker: their country or region and, if you know it, their dialect. Mention any preference for a male or female interpreter.
- Get your quote. We email you a quote, with no obligation to book.

Khmer is an Austroasiatic language, spoken mainly in Cambodia. It is the official language of Cambodia.
Khmer is written in the Khmer script.
Before you book: Unlike Thai, Lao and Vietnamese, Khmer is not tonal. Khmer names are romanised in several different ways, so send us the passport spelling of any name for a certified translation.

Khmer Cambodian interpreter and translator FAQs
How quickly can I book a Khmer Cambodian interpreter?
We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Khmer Cambodian interpreters work nearby.
How much does a Khmer Cambodian interpreter cost?
The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.
Can you certify Khmer Cambodian translations for a UK visa or immigration application?
Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application. Because Khmer is not written in the Latin alphabet, send us the passport spelling of every name so the translation matches it.
Do you provide Khmer Cambodian interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?
Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Khmer Cambodian interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
