Fijian Hindi interpreting services

Indo-Fijians live mostly in the sugar-cane districts of western Viti Levu, around Lautoka, Ba and Nadi, and around Labasa on Vanua Levu, as well as in Suva, and accents vary a little between them. The bigger distinction is register. In Fiji, the everyday language is Fiji Baat, while standard Hindi is kept for school lessons, religious ceremonies and the news, so a speaker may switch between the two depending on how formal the moment feels.

Ask for an interpreter who can do the same. Families whose ancestors came from South India also grew up speaking Fijian Hindi, so a surname alone is no guide to the language needed. Consecutive interpreting suits most appointments, and remote booking widens the choice of interpreters considerably.

Face-to-face interpreting

The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.

Telephone interpreting

The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.

Video interpreting

A Fijian Hindi interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.

We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.

Certified Fijian Hindi translation

Fiji issues its birth, marriage and death certificates, passports and court papers in English, so most Indo-Fijian families arrive with little that needs translating. The work that does come up is personal: handwritten letters in Hindi or Urdu script, messages written in romanised Fiji Baat, and above all recordings. Because the language is mainly spoken, a voice note or phone recording used as evidence has to be transcribed and then translated, and we do both.

Each translator works into their native language, so English versions go to a native English speaker. Names follow the Latin spelling in the passport, since the same name can be romanised several ways. Every translation is certified for UK use.

  • Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
  • Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
  • Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
  • Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
  • Transcription of Fijian Hindi audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.

English to Fijian Hindi translation

Written material for Indo-Fijian readers needs a decision about script and register. Many older readers learned standard Hindi in Devanagari at school, which suits formal letters and consent forms. Younger people may read Devanagari slowly or not at all, and a short message in romanised, everyday Fiji Baat, or a recorded audio version, will often reach them better. Tell us the reader's age and purpose, and we will recommend one.

Fijian Hindi court and police interpreters

Fijian Hindi turns up in family proceedings, immigration and asylum tribunals, and criminal cases, sometimes alongside recorded evidence that must be transcribed first. Our search for any legal booking starts with Fijian Hindi interpreters who already have experience in court or with solicitors; where interpreters holding them exist for Fijian Hindi, we prefer those with the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or registration with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). Otherwise a Hindi interpreter with those credentials and experience of Indo-Fijian speakers may be the best available, and the court should know that.

Fijian Hindi interpreter and translator FAQs

How quickly can I book a Fijian Hindi interpreter?

We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Fijian Hindi interpreters work nearby.

How much does a Fijian Hindi interpreter cost?

The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.

Can you certify Fijian Hindi translations for a UK visa or immigration application?

Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application.

Do you provide Fijian Hindi interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?

Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Fijian Hindi interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
