Chavacano interpreting services
Chavacano is not one uniform speech. Zamboangueño, by far the largest variety, has absorbed words from Cebuano, Tausug and Tagalog, while the Chavacano of Cavite City and of Ternate developed separately beside Manila Bay. Even the plural works the Philippine way, with mga placed before the noun, where Spanish would add an ending.
Speakers also shift towards more Spanish-sounding words and polite pronouns when addressing elders or officials. An interpreter should match the level the speaker chooses rather than lift it. Consecutive interpreting suits nearly every booking, and a video link lets us reach the handful of interpreters available across the country.
Face-to-face interpreting
The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.
Telephone interpreting
The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.
Video interpreting
A Chavacano interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.
We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.
Certified Chavacano translation
Civil records from Zamboanga City and Cavite are issued in English, like the rest of the Philippine registry, so a UK office can usually read them without help. Requests to translate Chavacano mostly concern private writing: letters, chat messages and recorded speech. It is written as people talk, full of Spanish-looking words that don't always carry their meaning in Madrid or Mexico City, so we never give it to a translator who knows only Spanish.
Each of our translators works into their native language. Many Zamboanga surnames are Spanish, and an accent or an ñ may be kept on one document and dropped on another (Nuñez, Nunez); our certified English translations follow the passport and note the difference.
- Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
- Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
- Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
- Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
- Transcription of Chavacano audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.
English to Chavacano translation
Translating into Chavacano only makes sense for readers from Zamboanga, and we write it in the Zamboangueño standard, not in Spanish. A leaflet in Spanish would look almost right to them and read wrongly, with verb forms and pronouns they never use. The plain everyday register works better than the formal one for health and council information.
Chavacano court and police interpreters
In a British courtroom a Chavacano speaker risks being given a Spanish interpreter if nobody checks the language properly. Raise it with the court as early as you can. We try to supply a Chavacano interpreter with legal experience who, where interpreters holding them exist for Chavacano, has the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or is registered with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). If none can be found, the judge may agree to an interpreter joining by video from elsewhere in the UK.
How to book a Chavacano interpreter
- Tell us about the assignment: the date, time and address, or that you need telephone or video; how long it should last; and what it is for, such as a hospital appointment, a hearing or a business meeting.
- Tell us about the speaker: their country or region and, if you know it, their dialect. Mention any preference for a male or female interpreter.
- Get your quote. We email you a quote, with no obligation to book.

About the Chavacano language
Chavacano is a Spanish-based creole, spoken mainly in Zamboanga City and Cavite in the Philippines.
Chavacano is written in the Latin alphabet.
Before you book: Spanish speakers recognise much of Chavacano's vocabulary, but its grammar is closer to the Philippine languages, so it needs its own interpreter.

Chavacano interpreter and translator FAQs
How quickly can I book a Chavacano interpreter?
We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Chavacano interpreters work nearby.
How much does a Chavacano interpreter cost?
The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.
Can you certify Chavacano translations for a UK visa or immigration application?
Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application.
Do you provide Chavacano interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?
Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Chavacano interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
