Samoan interpreting services
Registers matter more than regions in Samoan. The same speaker will use the "t" pronunciation in church, in school and on formal occasions, and the "k" pronunciation at home, and there is a separate respectful vocabulary for addressing a chief (matai) or an elder. A professional interpreter uses the formal style in an official meeting unless the client clearly prefers otherwise.
Speakers who grew up in Samoa, in American Samoa or in the New Zealand diaspora all understand one another, though New Zealand-born speakers may be more at ease in English. Ask the client which they would choose. Consecutive interpreting is normal, and because the pool is small, a video interpreter based in the Pacific or in New Zealand is often the realistic option.
Face-to-face interpreting
The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.
Telephone interpreting
The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.
Video interpreting
A Samoan interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.
We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.
Certified Samoan translation
A lot of official paperwork from Samoa, including many certificates, is already issued in English, so check before ordering a translation. What arrives in Samoan tends to be personal or community material: letters from relatives, church and village records, statements, and decisions of Samoa's Land and Titles Court about chiefly titles and customary land. Our translators each work into their native language, so a certified Samoan to English translation for a UK solicitor or the Home Office is written by a native English speaker.
Names need a second look. A person who holds a matai title may put it before their given names, and it may appear on some documents but not on others. Everyday Samoan writing also tends to drop the glottal stop mark and the long-vowel macron, which can leave a word ambiguous, so the translator reads it in context.
- Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
- Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
- Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
- Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
- Transcription of Samoan audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.
English to Samoan translation
For health leaflets, letters from a school or council and church notices, we translate into the written formal style, which is the one readers expect to see on paper. Whether to include the glottal stop and macrons depends on the readers: they help older readers and learners with pronunciation, but a family used to informal messaging may find plain spelling easier. Tell us who the text is for and we will choose.
Samoan court and police interpreters
Samoan is rarely requested in UK courts, and when it is, finding a suitable interpreter in the country can take time. For legal bookings we look for Samoan speakers who have worked in legal settings and, where anyone holds them for Samoan, the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or registration with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). Few Samoan interpreters do, so we tell the court or solicitor what each interpreter's legal experience is. If the court permits it, a remote interpreter joining by video from New Zealand or Australia can widen the choice considerably.
How to book a Samoan interpreter
- Tell us about the assignment: the date, time and address, or that you need telephone or video; how long it should last; and what it is for, such as a hospital appointment, a hearing or a business meeting.
- Tell us about the speaker: their country or region and, if you know it, their dialect. Mention any preference for a male or female interpreter.
- Get your quote. We email you a quote, with no obligation to book.

Samoan interpreter and translator FAQs
How quickly can I book a Samoan interpreter?
We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Samoan interpreters work nearby.
How much does a Samoan interpreter cost?
The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.
Can you certify Samoan translations for a UK visa or immigration application?
Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application.
Do you provide Samoan interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?
Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Samoan interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
