Mina interpreting services

Almost all Mina interpreting is consecutive, a sentence or two at a time, which gives the interpreter room to check a word before passing it on. The Gen of the Aného area, on the coast east of Lomé, is not quite the Mina of the capital's streets, where speech mixes freely with Ewe and French. That rarely stops two people understanding each other, but for a long interview it pays to tell us where the speaker grew up and which other languages they are comfortable in, because the answer tells us whether a Mina interpreter is essential or whether an Ewe or French one would be a fair second choice.

Face-to-face interpreting

The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.

Telephone interpreting

The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.

Video interpreting

A Mina interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.

We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.

Certified Mina translation

Official paperwork from Togo is in French: the acte de naissance, marriage certificates, the extrait de casier judiciaire and school results such as the baccalauréat. A UK university, employer or the Home Office will want those in English, and that translation is made from the French. Written Mina turns up in other places: handwritten letters, church records, voice notes transcribed for a solicitor, or text messages put forward as evidence. We translate those as well, and each translator works into their native language, so Mina to English goes to a native English speaker.

Names are copied exactly as the passport spells them, and we flag it when two documents disagree, because a UK office comparing a French certificate with an English form will notice a missing accent or a swapped first name.

  • Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
  • Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
  • Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
  • Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
  • Transcription of Mina audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.

English to Mina translation

Written Mina has far fewer readers than spoken Mina has speakers. Many people who chat in Mina all day learned to read in French, and far more printed material exists in Ewe than in Gen. Before you commission a leaflet or a letter into Mina, ask a couple of the people it is meant for which they would pick up and read. We'll say honestly if French, Ewe or a recorded audio message would reach them better.

Mina court and police interpreters

A Mina interpreter may be needed at an asylum appeal, in family proceedings or in a criminal case where a witness or defendant is from southern Togo. For these we look for a Mina interpreter who has worked in legal settings before and, if anyone qualified in the language can be found, one who holds the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or is on the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). For Mina that pool is very small, so tell us the hearing date early. Where the court allows it, joining by video lets an experienced interpreter cover a hearing from elsewhere in the country.

How to book a Mina interpreter

  1. Tell us about the assignment: the date, time and address, or that you need telephone or video; how long it should last; and what it is for, such as a hospital appointment, a hearing or a business meeting.
  2. Tell us about the speaker: their country or region and, if you know it, their dialect. Mention any preference for a male or female interpreter.
  3. Get your quote. We email you a quote, with no obligation to book.

Mina interpreter and translator FAQs

How quickly can I book a Mina interpreter?

We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Mina interpreters work nearby.

How much does a Mina interpreter cost?

The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.

Can you certify Mina translations for a UK visa or immigration application?

Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application.

Do you provide Mina interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?

Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Mina interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
