Macedonian interpreting services
The standard language was set down in 1945 on the basis of the west-central dialects, the speech of towns such as Prilep, Bitola and Kičevo. People from the east of the country, around Strumica and Štip, sound closer to Bulgarian, and speakers from the north around Kumanovo share features with Serbian. Any trained interpreter handles all of this, but older people from rural areas may use local words that a younger interpreter from the capital has to check, so mention the person's home region when you book.
Respect is shown with the plural "Vie" for "you", and older clients notice when it is dropped. Most appointments work best consecutively, with short turns. People from the country's Albanian and Turkish communities may prefer their own language, and Macedonian speakers who grew up in Albania or northern Greece often use local dialects that differ from the standard.
Face-to-face interpreting
The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.
Telephone interpreting
The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.
Video interpreting
A Macedonian interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.
We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.
Certified Macedonian translation
Clients bring us birth and marriage certificates from the civil registry, school and university diplomas, police clearance certificates, driving licences and court decisions. Documents issued before February 2019 give the country as the Republic of Macedonia; the name changed under the Prespa Agreement with Greece. Our certified translation reproduces what the document says, and we add a translator's note where the old name might confuse a UK office.
Every translator works into their own native language, so Macedonian to English is done by a native English speaker. There is no single romanisation in daily use, which means one surname can appear as Gjorgjievski, Gorgievski or Georgievski on different papers. We copy the spelling from the passport and flag any document that differs.
- Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
- Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
- Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
- Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
- Transcription of Macedonian audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.
English to Macedonian translation
Write for Macedonian readers in standard Macedonian and in Cyrillic, never in a Bulgarian or Serbian translation passed off as close enough; readers spot it at once and some take offence. Check that your fonts carry the letters ѓ, ќ, ѕ and ј, because a layout set up for Russian can drop them and print blank boxes. For a leaflet going to families from North Macedonia, ask us whether an Albanian version is needed alongside.
Macedonian court and police interpreters
Macedonian is needed in UK courts for criminal cases, family proceedings, employment disputes and immigration appeals, often for people whose passport says Bulgarian. When we book for legal work we ask for Macedonian interpreters who have done it before and, where anyone holds them in this language, the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or entry on the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). The pool is small, so a video link, where the court allows one, often brings the best qualified person to the hearing.
How to book a Macedonian interpreter
- Tell us about the assignment: the date, time and address, or that you need telephone or video; how long it should last; and what it is for, such as a hospital appointment, a hearing or a business meeting.
- Tell us about the speaker: their country or region and, if you know it, their dialect. Mention any preference for a male or female interpreter.
- Get your quote. We email you a quote, with no obligation to book.

Macedonian interpreter and translator FAQs
How quickly can I book a Macedonian interpreter?
We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Macedonian interpreters work nearby.
How much does a Macedonian interpreter cost?
The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.
Can you certify Macedonian translations for a UK visa or immigration application?
Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application. Because Macedonian is not written in the Latin alphabet, send us the passport spelling of every name so the translation matches it.
Do you provide Macedonian interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?
Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Macedonian interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
