Belorussian interpreting services
Belarusian dialects fall into a north-eastern group and a south-western group, with a belt of mixed speech between them. In the far south, the Polesian dialects near the Ukrainian border sound in places closer to Ukrainian, and in the west, around Hrodna, Polish words turn up in everyday talk. None of this usually stops an experienced interpreter, but it helps to tell us which region the client comes from.
The bigger decision is the language itself. Plenty of Belarusians will answer in Russian even when the interview began in Belarusian, simply out of habit. Consecutive interpreting, a few sentences at a time, gives the interpreter room to notice that and check with the speaker, which matters in any recorded interview.
Face-to-face interpreting
The interpreter comes to you: a hospital ward, a courtroom, a council office, a home visit or a business meeting. It is the best choice when people need to read expressions as well as words, or when the conversation is long or sensitive.
Telephone interpreting
The quickest option to set up. It works well for short calls, triage, appointment reminders and quick checks with a client.
Video interpreting
A Belorussian interpreter joins by video for remote hearings, consultations and meetings, which helps when there is no interpreter near you.
We also provide medical interpreting and conference interpreting.
Certified Belorussian translation
Before you send documents from Belarus, look at which language they are actually written in. Birth and marriage certificates, school records and anything from the Soviet period are often in Russian, some newer papers are in Belarusian, and a few carry both. We assign the translator to match, and each translator works into their native language, so the English version is written by a native English speaker.
Personal names have two forms. The same man may be Aleksandr on one record and Aliaksandr on another, Sergei or Siarhei; a woman may be Olga or Volha. We follow the spelling in the passport and point out where your papers disagree, so that a certified translation for the Home Office, a court or a university matches the identity document.
- Certified translation of birth, marriage and death certificates, passports, driving licences, degree certificates and bank statements, for the Home Office, courts, universities and employers.
- Legal translation: witness statements, court bundles, contracts and immigration papers.
- Document translation of medical reports, letters, leaflets and patient information.
- Urgent translation when a deadline is close.
- Transcription of Belorussian audio and video recordings, with an English translation if you need one.
English to Belorussian translation
Belarusian has two spelling standards: the official one taught in schools, and the older classical standard, Taraškievica, still used by some independent media and diaspora groups. For a public leaflet or a letter we use the official spelling unless you ask otherwise. It is also worth asking whether your readers would rather have Russian. Many Belarusian families read Russian more easily, and a notice in both languages sometimes serves them best.
Belorussian court and police interpreters
Legal work for this language is mostly asylum appeals, immigration hearings and the solicitor's meetings that come before them, with occasional criminal and family cases. For these bookings we look for Belorussian interpreters with legal experience, and where interpreters holding them exist for Belarusian, the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Law) or registration with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI). Those credentials are rare for Belarusian. If the client is content with Russian, a qualified Russian legal interpreter may be the answer, provided the client's agreement is on the record before the hearing starts.
How to book a Belorussian interpreter
- Tell us about the assignment: the date, time and address, or that you need telephone or video; how long it should last; and what it is for, such as a hospital appointment, a hearing or a business meeting.
- Tell us about the speaker: their country or region and, if you know it, their dialect. Mention any preference for a male or female interpreter.
- Get your quote. We email you a quote, with no obligation to book.

About the Belarusian language
Belarusian is an East Slavic language, close to Ukrainian and Russian. It is spoken mainly in Belarus. Belarusian is an official language of Belarus, alongside Russian.
Belarusian is written in the Cyrillic alphabet.
Before you book: Russian is used more than Belarusian in daily life in Belarus, so many Belarusians prefer a Russian interpreter. Ask the person which they want.

Belorussian interpreter and translator FAQs
How quickly can I book a Belorussian interpreter?
We take bookings 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Telephone and video interpreting are usually the quickest to arrange. For a face-to-face appointment, give us as much notice as you can: same-day cover is often possible, but it depends on where you are and how many Belorussian interpreters work nearby.
How much does a Belorussian interpreter cost?
The price depends on the type of interpreting (face-to-face, telephone or video), how long the appointment lasts, where it is and how much notice you give. We quote before anything is booked, and quotes are free: call 0800 2425 125 or use our online quote form.
Can you certify Belorussian translations for a UK visa or immigration application?
Yes. We translate and certify documents such as birth and marriage certificates, passports and police certificates for visa, settlement and citizenship applications. UK Visas and Immigration asks for each translation to confirm that it is accurate and to show the date and the translator's full name, signature and contact details, so tell us when you order that the document is for an immigration application. Because Belarusian is not written in the Latin alphabet, send us the passport spelling of every name so the translation matches it.
Do you provide Belorussian interpreters for courts, tribunals and police interviews?
Yes. Tell us the setting when you book, for example a Crown Court trial, an immigration tribunal hearing or a police interview under caution, so we can match a Belorussian interpreter with the right legal experience and qualifications.
